Do you feel funny? The world has changed over night and although it is temporary, there is a huge unknown of what the future is going to look like. What you are feeling is probably grief. If you have been through a great loss you might have recognised these familiar feelings. There is a lot to grieve for right now. What are you grieving?
There are lost lives, lost jobs, lost employees, lost IVF appointments, lost holidays, lost savings, lost security. We are all mourning our health, our plans for the year, our simple freedoms, and our ability to buy toilet paper and go out for brunch.
What can we do?
Recognise that your feelings are valid. You are allowed to feel sad and disappointed. No matter that others have it worse than you. It is a grief, and there is no hierarchy on it. Loss is loss, grief is grief. Yes some might have it worse but there is no contest or limit on who gets to feel what. Your feelings are real, allow them to see the light of day. Let yourself mourn the empty supermarket shelves, your cancelled birthday party, your long planned holiday. Speaking it aloud always helps. What are you grieving the loss of right now? For me it is planning a winter holiday, Jasper’s birthday party and all our @thelilycalvertfund
fundraisers that will not go ahead. Your turn, share it below:
