We try to keep our sad posts are few and far between, but this one while sad, really speaks to the emotional intelligence of sheep.
This picture is of Jade, the morning that her friend Tanith died. She and Tanith were both found down metres apart and were hours, if not minutes, from death. Both suffering from pregnancy toxaemia and having both lost their babies, they bonded in recovery.
Tanith’s survival was a miracle, but she continued to have lots of ups and downs and sadly passed away at Weetbix HQ in October of last year.
The morning that she died, she was surrounded by the rest of the Gang, quietly resting near her body.
This picture is of Jade watching me dig Tanith’s grave. She stood there observing me dig the hole, and after a while she left to be with the rest of the Gang.
The first few days for Jade without Tanith were tough. She seemed lost and would cry out for her friend.
Over time she became closer with the others, and now has her friend Bambi back, who she also bonded with in recovery.
Sheep are deeply emotional. They are unique and complex, they think and they feel. They have friends, they form close bonds, they can be strong, funny, fiercely loyal, cheeky and determined; no two sheep are or will ever be the same.
Perhaps we tell ourselves that they are all the same; that they can’t comprehend or understand, so that we feel less guilty about using their bodies for our own gain.
Whatever the case, anyone who has truly spent quality time with sheep will know just how wonderfully unique they are.
