MONEY TALK: •I get my info about finance from podcasts, people, and classes! I love the @wsj
podcast, as well as @Freakonomics
, and @nyt
The Daily for more news-based information. I have gotten most of my financial knowledge from my parents and from my producing mentor, and I’ve taken some finance classes (shout out to @Coursera
!) online. •When it comes to my money, I’m most proud of my willingness to learn. We are taught from a very young age that it is “impolite” to talk about money, so in order to de-stigmatize and reevaluate how we approach this topic, we have to be willing to ask question and seek out information, which I have done a lot of over the past year. •My financial goals are to continue to learn consistency and be better about sticking to budgets that I set for myself. •Something I wish I knew more about when it comes to money is the depth of the cause and effect of the gender pay gap. The most recent acting offer I received was the first time I was made aware that I would be making the same amount as my male counterpart, and I thought to myself, “Why haven’t I been asking about this every time I sign a contract?” I think the money-conversation stigma runs even deeper for women than it does for men for a myriad of reasons, and I’d like to continue to strive for equality in that realm, especially in my own field. •I don’t have a ton of extra cash lying around to be completely candid, but when I do, I like to spend on experience—a great meal out, a show, etc. I try to donate at least $10 to a cause I care about every month as well.
